The Bucknell men's lacrosse team rolled past St. John's, 23-7, on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium at the Pascucci Family Athletics Complex. The Bison (3-0, 0-0 PL) powered past the Red Storm (0-2, 0-0 Big East), bolstered by a record-setting 11-goal third quarter and Connor Davis matching the school record for single-game goals by a freshman (6) for the second time this young season. Overall, Bucknell had 11 different goal scorers. Beyond Davis, Alston Tarry (3g-2a), Cam Doolan (2g-2a), Jack Feda (3g), Patrick Ciquera (2g-1a) and Dutch Furlong (1g-2a) all logged at least three points. The Bison scored in a variety of different ways on a brisk, windy day, including multiple strikes in transition and one while down a man. With 11 goals in the third quarter, Bucknell matched its school record, set in a 26-9 victory over Denver in 1992. The Bison finished two goals shy of their standard for goals in a second half (14) and three goals away from their record in goals in a game (26). Davis, who first netted six goals in his debut at Mercer, matched the standard also held by Thomas Flibotte (Drexel, 2013), Kevin Roth (Kutztown, 1989) and Rink Smith (Gettysburg, 1980). He now has an incredible 16 goals on his freshman campaign, 11 more than his closest teammate. Through the first quarter, Bucknell held a commanding 7-0 lead. The Bison, who held St. John's without a goal for the first 17 minutes of the contest, added four goals in the second frame to take an 11-3 advantage into the intermission. Bucknell scored right off the second half's opening faceoff, with Nick Crovatto finding Davis for his fourth goal of the contest. That strike ultimately kicked off an 11-2 third quarter which extended the Bison's advantage to 22-5. Bucknell put together two 7-0 scoring runs over the course of the contest, adding one four-goal and one three-goal run. During the second quarter, the Bison scored three goals in less than a minute, with two coming just nine seconds apart. The Striano brothers, Richie and Danny, also teamed for a goal at the third quarter's 9:22 mark; it was the first time they have combined for a goal during their two seasons in Lewisburg. Crovatto had a big day, winning 18 of 22 faceoffs and matching Jarett Witzal's single-game record with 14 ground balls. Frankie Higgins and Andrew Stanzel each caused three turnovers, with Higgins adding three ground balls. For the Red Storm, Patrick Ednie had a hat trick while Jake Oemcke collected four ground balls. Across the two teams, five goalies saw action; they combined to make 16 saves, with nine belonging to Kaden Quirk. Bucknell held advantages in shots (56-28), ground balls (52-22) and faceoffs (22-10). The Bison held St. John's scoreless on five man advantages while capitalizing on two of their own. Bucknell next returns to the road for a 12 p.m. game at Marist on Saturday, Feb. 26.
