READING, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-13 setback to Delaware Valley in MAC crossover action at Shirk Stadium on Saturday. With the loss, the Lions fell to 2-3 overall, meanwhile the Aggies claim their first win of the 2022 season and advance to 1-3 overall. Senior Cole Genneken surpassed the 100-career points milestone behind a game-high five goals and three assists for eight points. Jay Shifflet added three goals, while Alex McKendry totaled 2 goals and 1 assist. Albright opened up the game with two early goals from Genneken and first-year Ryan Houghtaling to take the lead at the 12:13-mark.The Lions held the lead for a majority of the quarter until the Aggies finally got on the board at the 3:36-mark. Jack Burke responded with a goal shortly after, and Genneken closed out the opening frame with his second goal to claim a 4-1 lead for the Lions. Delaware Valley notched back-to-back goals to open the second stanza, pulling the Aggies within one. Genneken added to Albright's lead with a goal at the 9:45-mark to keep the Lions in front 5-3. The Aggies responded with two more goals to tie the game at five. With Jay Shifflet's goal at the 6:10 mark, the Lions jumped in front. However, the Aggies answered quickly with another goal to keep the teams even at 6. Delaware Valley scored once more and held onto the lead until the last three seconds when McKendry had the final say in the first half to tie the game at seven. The Aggies took the lead with a quick score in the opening minute of the third quarter. However, the Lions responded with back-to-back goals scored by Shifflet and Genneken to claim a 9-8 lead at the 7:51-mark. Delaware Valley answered with two quick scores less than ten seconds apart to pull ahead 10-9 at the 7:24-mark. Each team exchanged goals to close out the third as the Aggies clung to an 11-10 lead. Delaware Valley increased their lead to two with the first goal of the final stanza. However, the Lions answered with a man-up goal from McKendry and another from Genneken to tie the game at 12. The Aggies followed up with two goals of their own to take a 14-12 lead at the 5:28-mark. The Lions got within one following a McKendry goal at the 4:14-mark but the Aggies put the game away with two more scores in the closing minutes to claim the 16-13 non-conference victory. Delaware Valley held a 48-41 shot advantage and a slight 28-23 shot on goal advantage over Albright. The Aggies also dominated in the battle for ground balls 36-19 and won 22 faceoffs compared to Albright's eight. Junior Liam Ferry receives the loss for the Lions despite completing 12 saves in the full amount of action. Jim Murphy earns the win for Delaware Valley with ten saves in the full amount of play. The Lions return to Shirk Stadium on Saturday, March 26th to host Marywood University in a non-conference match up at 1 p.m.
