ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team struggled on Saturday afternoon against a tough Arcadia University team, falling by a score of 21-7 in non-conference action. Rich Marshall (1 g, 2 a) led the Knights on the afternoon with three points, while Drew Conlon (2 g) and Max Nice (2 a) had two points apiece. Jake Marchiafava and Robbie Kays split time in goal, combining for 15 saves in the loss. Neumann started slow in the Saturday matinee and would be punished early by Arcadia. The visitors scored early and often in the first frame, blitzing the hosts for five goals before they could even blink to lead 5-0 with 4:26 remaining in the quarter. Neumann thought they had gotten a goal back at the buzzer, but a Marshall shot that found the back of the net did so just after the horn sounded as the game remained 5-0 after one period of play. Arcadia continued to roll into the second stanza, scoring two of the first three tallies of the quarter around a goal from Sam Nice to make it 7-1 at the 12:49 mark of the frame. Neumann started to grow in confidence midway through the period though, using a few man-up opportunities to the team's advantage. The hosts scored three unanswered goals in less than two minutes, as Marshall, Conlon and Wyatt Belotti scored to cut the deficit to 7-4. That was as close as Neumann would get though, as the visitors scored four straight goals in the final 5:14 of the quarter to take a comfortable 11-4 lead into the halftime break. Arcadia quelled any chance of a Neumann comeback in the third quarter. The visitors were relentless in the frame, recording five of the first six goals in the period to run out to a 16-5 advantage. Conlon and Mike Kiley were able to score consolation markers in the quarter for the hosts, but a 17th goal from the visitors with 1:29 remaining made the score 17-6 heading to the fourth. With the game in hand for Arcadia in the final frame, scoring settled down somewhat. Vincent Corbino opened the quarter with a goal in the opening minute to make it 17-7, but another four goal run later in the period from Arcadia sealed the 21-7 win for the visitors. Neumann (6-2) will look to shake off the tough loss before returning to action next Wednesday, March 23rd when the team travels to Misericordia University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
