The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team continues its dominance in Division II, defeating the Molloy Lions at home by a final score of 21-4 Saturday evening. The Bobcats came out hot, scoring the first four goals of the game to go up 4-0. Junior Matthew Ward scored the first goal off an assist from junior Jake Bowman. Paul Ruppert netted a goal 15 seconds later off an assist from senior Nick Gallagher. First-year LSM Luke McCullough scooped the ground ball off the ensuing faceoff, taking it all the way to the cage to score, making it 3-0. Ruppert then added his second goal of the day off an assist from sophomore Tanner Donaldson to make it 4-0. Molloy answered with a goal at the 10-minute mark to make it 4-1. Three minutes later, senior Jason Clinton scored off an assist from sophomore Bubba Love to go up 5-1. Love then scored a goal of his own with 3:38 left in the first quarter to go up 6-1. The Lions scored to make it 6-2 before senior Sam Natvig won the faceoff, scoring eight seconds later to go up 7-2. Bowman scored at 13:13 in the second quarter before Clinton netted his second goal of the day on an FSU man-up to make it 9-2. Ward scored his second of the day with one minute left in the first half before Ruppert scored his third goal of the day, giving the Bobcats an 11-2 lead going into halftime. Clinton scored 40 seconds into the second half before Gallagher netted a goal to go up 13-2. Bowman got on the scoresheet, netting a goal at the 10:18 mark to go up 14-2. Junior Gavin Schattall got in on the action, scoring at 6:31 in the third to make it 15-2. After a man-up goal by the visitors, junior Nicholas Nordhausen put the Bobcats up by 13 at 16-3. With 6:50 left in the game, senior Dylan Griffiths scored to make it 17-3. After a Lions goal to make it 17-4, FSU scored the last four goals of the game. Griffiths added two more, with junior Connor Tollus and sophomore Owen McCallum both picking up a goal to give the Bobcats the 21-4 win. Graduate Garrett Colvin led the defense with one caused turnover and two ground balls, while graduate Jack Marks recorded four saves, allowing only two goals in the win for FSU. The win moves the Bobcats to 4-0 on the season, while the Lions drop to 1-5. Frostburg's win comes on a special day for the program, as this was the "Love Strong" game. FSU Alumni Spenser Love is the Bobcats all-time goal leader and is a testicular cancer survivor himself. In June of 2015, Love was diagnosed with a testicular cancer that is the most common form of cancer in men ages 15-35. Within a week of the initial discovery, he had surgery, followed by several follow-up procedures. He then began a grueling six-week chemotherapy treatment. FSU is proud to support Spenser and the Love family in their continued efforts towards this cause. Today, everyone who participated in the 50:50 raffle has helped testicular cancer research.
