NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Jared Newall scored four goals to lead Western New England to a 14-7 victory over Coast Guard men's lacrosse on Sunday afternoon. Western New England improves to 3-0 on the season as Coast Guard drops to 0-2. Newall had a game-high four goals to lead the Golden Bears as Conor Tracy and Mike Bannon added a pair of tallies in the victory. Matt Greer, Murphy Hartmann, Mitch Weiss, Noah Rust, Brian Madden, and Joseph Contino all had a goal each to round out the scoring for Western New England. Ian Feely, Taylor Gustafson, and Caleb Holdridge all had a pair of goals for the Bears. Nate Gee added one goal and Ryan Flynn had two assists for Coast Guard. The Golden Bears scored the opening two goals of the game before Feely put the Bears on the board at 2:07. Madden scored for the Golden Bears for a 3-1 lead in the first period. Western New England scored three more in the second period to extend their lead 6-1. Holdridge scored his first of the game at 4:35 in the second, cutting the deficit 6-2 at halftime. The Golden Bears went on a five-goal run in the third period, extending their lead, 11-2. Holdridge found Gustafson with seven seconds in the period to make it 11-3. Holdridge, Feely, and Gee, all scored back-to-back-to-back goals to open the fourth quarter for the Bears, cutting the deficit to 11-6. The Golden Bears scored the final two goals of the game for the 14-7 final. Dan Lucas made 11 saves for the Bears and Matt Reheuser made one save during his time in goal for Coast Guard. Carter Randall made 14 saves for the Golden Bears. Coast Guard is back home on Wednesday, March 2 when they host Salve Regina at 6 PM.
