BALTIMORE – Kevin Lindley scored six goals and had an assist in the first half Sunday, leading Loyola University Maryland to a 10-2 halftime lead, and the Greyhounds went on to a 12-10 victory over No. 9 Duke University at Ridley Athletic Complex. Lindley's first-half goal tally matched his career-best for a half, equaling the six he scored on March 30, 2019, in a win over Colgate University. Today, he had two in the first quarter and then scored three-straight, and a total of four, in the second. His two goals and one assist in the first quarter came as Loyola took a 4-0 lead in the game's first 12 minutes, and he added four in the final 12 minutes of the half as the Greyhounds shutout the Blue Devils, 6-0, in the quarter. Lindley was one of four players with multiple points in the game as Evan James (one goal, two assists), Aidan Olmstead (three assists) and Adam Poitras (two goals) all did as well. The Greyhounds' faceoff unit won 14 of 24 faceoffs as Bailey Savio went 8 fo 15 with six ground balls and Eric Pacheco won 6 of 9 with four pick ups. Loyola's defense also held some of the Blue Devils' top scorers well below their averages. Dyson Williams entered the game with 26 goals and 34 points in nine outings, but he had just one goal, while fellow attacker Joe Robertson was held to one goal after entering with 12 goals and 10 assists. The Blue Devils' second-leading scorer, Sean Lulley (18 goals, 13 assists) did not score, while midfielders Nakeie Montgomery (19, 9) and Andrew McAdorey (11, 13) were held to two and one assist, respectively. The Greyhounds got their scoring started by virtute of a defensive play as Joey Kamish caused a turnover on a ride and threw it ahead to Olmstead. He crossed it to Lindley on the right side, and Lindley scored 1:42 into the game to put Loyola on the board. James then assisted on the next two goals, distributing to Poitras for an extra-man score at 9:56 and Lindley for one with 3:57 to go in the first quarter. Lindley added his assist as he beat his pole off the right wing, spun back and threw to Binney who was at right point, and Binney converted a sidearm left-handed shot for a goal to give Loyola a 4-0 lead at 3:03. Duke would get back within two before the end of the first quarter as Brennan O'Neill scored 15 seconds apart at 1:42 and 1:27. Those were the last goals the Blue Devils would score in the half, however. Lindley opened the second quarter with three in a row to spark the 6-0 run. He beat a short-stick to score at 11:42, and then Savio won the ensuing faceoff. He raced it into the box and threw it to Olmstead who then got it to Lindley for his second goal in eight seconds. Lindley's third of the second quarter's first five minutes came as he dodged from 'X,' beat his man and scored sidearm on the doorstep to make it 7-2 Greyhounds. The Greyhounds continued the run with a goal at 8:17 as Ryan McNulty stayed on, and Loyola played 5-on-5 offense. When McNulty's defender went to sub, he ran in on the left side, and Davis Lindsey sent him a pass which he converted for his first goal of the season. Lindley took a tight pass by Dan Wigley at 4:52 to score in traffic, and Olmstead found James for an extra-man goal with under 14 seconds left in the half, and Loyola took a 10-2 lead into the locker room. Williams got Duke on the board 2:39 into the second half with a goal off a Montgomery assist, but Poitras responded with an unassisted tally for the Greyhounds at 8:09. Joey Kamish then pushed the lead to nine, 12-3, scoring off a left-side dodge with 3:45 to go in the third quarter. Sam Shafer made eight saves in goal for the Greyhounds behind a close defense of Matt Hughes, Kyle LeBlanc and Cam Wyers that combined for six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Rezanka had three caused turnovers and four ground balls, while McNulty had one and one. The Greyhounds move back into Patriot League action on Saturday, March 19, when they host Bucknell University in a 1 p.m. game.
