THE BASICS Score: Emmanuel College, 10 Norwich University, 14 Records: Emmanuel College Saints (1-3, 0-1 GNAC) Norwich University Cadets (5-1, 1-0 GNAC) Location: Boston, Mass. – Roberto Clemente Field Date: Saturday, March 19, 2022 THE LEAD – Norwich University jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and held on to defeat host Emmanuel College, 14-10, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. HOW IT HAPPENED The Cadets opened the game with three goals in 100 seconds for a furious 3-0 start before EC got on the board with a man-up goal from junior Drew Chant (Warwick, R.I.) to make it 3-1 with 12:27 to play in the opening stanza. Norwich kept the early pressure on the Emmanuel defense, netting three consecutive goals including back-to-back by sophomore Tyler Seidel (Centerville, Md.) to build the lead to 6-1 with 4:35 left in the first. The squads then traded goals to close the period as EC sophomore Aidan Sullivan (Burlington, Conn.) found the back of the net before Seidel capped the quarter's scoring to account for a 7-2 score through one. Emmanuel got back in the game with a strong second quarter, outscoring NU in the period 3-1 to make it an 8-5 game at the break. Senior Colin Dickinson (Barre, Vt.) scored back-to-back goals to open the stanza to make it 7-4 before junior Callum Jones (Burlington, Ont.) snuck one home with 3:55 remaining in the half to move the score to 8-4. EC sophomore Robert Favuzza (Saugus, Mass.) gave the hosts a huge momentum lift before the break, scoring as time expired in the quarter to make it a three-score game at the half. The Saints carried the momentum into the third, again outscoring Norwich by a 3-1 margin in the quarter to pull within one at 9-8 heading into the final period. Sophomore Thomas Quigley (Marblehead, Mass.) scored two in the frame while Dickinson added his third of the day to set the stage for the fourth quarter. EC had several chances early in the stanza to even the score but couldn't find the equalizer. The Cadets added a big goal with 10:53 to play by senior Payden Masaracchi (Enola, Pa.) to move the score to 10-8 before Jones gave them some breathing room with 6:13 remaining giving the visitors an 11-8 edge. With 4:14 to play, Favuzza gave the hosts a glimmer of hope with his second goal of the day to pull Emmanuel to within two at 11-9 but Norwich responded with three straight goals over the next 1:55 on the clock to put the game out of reach, despite a late goal by Chant to account for the 14-10 final at Clemente Field. INSIDE THE NUMBERS Dickinson finished the game with four points on three goals and one helper while Chant added two goals and one assist. Seidel paced NU with three scores while graduate student Jack Anzalone (Ridgewod, N.J.) added two goals and two assists.
