GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior attack Michael La Forte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) tied Grove City's single-game records for assists and total points while freshman attack Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) fired in seven goals Friday night to help lift the Grove City College men's lacrosse team to an 18-11 victory over visiting Marymount (Va.) in non-conference play at Robert E. Thorn Field. La Forte tied his own program records by assisting eight goals and finishing with 11 total points. La Forte added three goals in Friday night's win. Senior midfielder Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and freshman midfielder Trey Zabroski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) both scored twice for Grove City. Junior attack James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus), senior long stick midfielder Addison Bennett (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield), junior midfielder David Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and freshman midfielder Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) all added goals. Grove City trailed 3-2 in the first quarter but Zabroski's first goal tied the game with 1:54 left in the period. Zabroski then gave Grove City the lead for good by scoring with 12:09 left in the first half. Blythe fired in three goals in the second quarter to help the Wolverines take an 8-5 lead by halftime. Bennett's man-down goal 54 seconds into the second half sparked a 5-1 burst by Grove City. Blythe, Jones, Kraus and Petrolle also scored as Grove City opened up a 13-7 lead. Gladstone added two assists for the Wolverines. Senior midfielders Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and Jed Speers (Medina, Ohio/Medina) both posted assists, as did sophomore midfielder Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California). Evans won 11 of 18 faceoffs and led Grove City with six ground balls. Kraus picked up five ground balls and Jones recorded four ground balls. Kraus, junior defender Brock Simmons (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and freshman defender Zach Furry (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) each caused two turnovers. Senior goalie R.J. Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) made six saves in the first half, earning the win. Sophomore Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) stopped four shots in the second half. Grove City outshot the Saints, 49-34, and had a 29-21 edge in shots on goal. Marymount turned over possession 21 times and Grove City had 19 turnovers. The Wolverines have a quick turnaround as they will host Midwest power Illinois Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday in non-conference action at Robert E. Thorn Field.
