The Falcons suffered a 17-6 defeat at the hands of the Widener Pride on Wednesday night. The Falcons were held scoreless in the opening quarter, but put three goals on the board in the second to make it a 10-3 game at the half. Widener pushed forward in the second half to earn the 11-goal victory. The Falcons were led by Josh McFadden's two goals and Sam Stone's two points (one goal and one assist). Christian Santangini, Seth Libby, and Dan Gillmeister each netted one goal for the Falcons. The loss drops the Falcons to 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the MAC Commonwealth. Messiah will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Stevenson at 7:00 p.m. for their regular season finale. Scoreless Start The Falcons were held without a goal in the opening quarter with the Pride netting four to take a 4-0 advantage. Conor Ball led the effort for the Pride with a pair of goals in the period with Matt Buckley and Nick Diiorio each tallied once. All four goals for Widener in the period came in the first six minutes of play. The Falcons' defense settled in and held the Pride scoreless for the remainder of the quarter. Getting on the Board Despite the scoreless first 15 minutes for the visitors, Messiah was first on the board in the second with Seth Libby netting an unassisted tally less than four minutes into the period. After a Widener goal from Connor Heisman, the Falcons netted a tally from Christian Santangini, his seventh of the season, to make it a 5-2 game. The Pride would end the half on a 5-1 run with Sam Stone scoring his 20th goal of the season to account for the lone Messiah tally in the finale nine minutes of the opening half. At the break, Messiah trailed Widener 10-3 with the Pride outshooting the Falcons 31-5. Widener Controls the Second Half The Pride controlled play after the break, scoring five goals in the third and two in the fourth. Messiah did put three goals on the board in the fourth quarter to outscore the Pride in the period. Josh McFadden scored twice for Messiah and Dan Gillmeister netting one off an assist from Sam Stone. The three-goal fourth quarter for the Falcons was not enough as the Pride earned the 17-6 victory. What's Up Next With the loss, Messiah falls to 3-7 on the season and 0-6 in the conference. The Falcons are scheduled to wrap-up their regular season on Saturday when they travel to Stevenson to take on the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.
