A Quick Look It was a tale of two halves today, as the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team was overtaken by a second half rally by city rival Hartwick in an 11-9 loss on All College Field. The loss for the Red Dragons drops them to 1-4 overall while the win for the Hawks puts them at 2-1. The Inside Story Things went well for the hosts in the opening half, as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead heading into halftime. Senior Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) got things started for Oneonta scoring at the 11:56 mark unassisted. At the 10:54 mark, junior Connor Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal of his own. James Schneider got Hartwick on the scoreboard at 9:11 off an assist from Shayne Kerrigan. Sophomore David Guest (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) countered at 6:30 with an assist from Cannon to give the Red Dragons its two-goal lead back. Oneonta would head to the second period leading 4-2. The second period belonged to Oneonta outscoring the Hawks 4-1 to build its halftime lead. After a Tyler Coleman goal for Hartwick cut Oneonta's lead to 4-3, the Red Dragons ripped off four unanswered heading to the break. Junior Kieran Rowley (Long Beach/Long Beach) led the attack with a pair of goals and an assist. Additionally, Guest and classmate Luke Maslin (Owego/Owego Free Academy) both scored. Hartwick began its climb back in the third quarter reversing the second quarter and closing the gap to 9-7 heading to the final quarter. Four different Hawks scored in the quarter while Rowley scored an extra-man goal for Oneonta. The Hawks continued to battle tying the score at 9-9 at the 6:47 mark on a Dylan Ferguson's sixth goal of the season. Pete Conley scored his second goal of the quarter 38 seconds later to give the Hawks the lead. Matthew Locasto scored an insurance goal with just over two minutes remaining for the final margin of victory. Just the Stats Oneonta narrowly outshot Hartwick 39-35, but the Hawks won 15-of-22 faceoffs. Hawks goalie Kyle McKee made 13 saves while Oneonta goalie Luke Mignoli (Long Beach/Long Beach) registered 10 saves. What's Next Oneonta will travel to Western Connecticut State on Saturday for a 1pm game.
