Visiting Clarkson outscored Nazareth 13-3 over the second and third quarters Saturday as the Golden Knights surged to an 18-11 men's lacrosse victory over Nazareth at NLPA Field. The non-conference defeat slipped Nazareth's record to 0-2, while Clarkson won for the first time to improve to 1-2. In a scheduling quirk caused in part by the COVID-19 pandemic, Nazareth and Clarkson will play again Saturday in Potsdam at 1 p.m. Senior Jeremy Jacob contributed three goals and two assists and Jon Roth also added three goals for the Golden Flyers, who were also beaten statistically in shots (43-37)l ground balls (34-20) and face-offs (19-13). Clarkson's Pierce Currie erupted for six goals and one assist and Conor Bartlett amassed nine points on three goals and six assists. First-period goals by Jacob and Quinn Conroy enabled Nazareth to ake a 2-1 lead early on. Jacob had another goal and Lucas Cobery also scored as the teams were tied 4-4 after the first 15 minutes. Currie's man-up goal with :12 left in the first period tied the score and touched off a six-goal scoring run that ended with Clarkson on top 9-4. Max Popolizio scored for Nazareth to interrupt the string, but Clarkson's Sebastian Geiger scored before the half's end to make it 10-5. Clarkson scored seven more times in the third quarter to pull away, leading 17-6 before Roth scored in the closing minute of the quarter. Nazareth scored four of the five goals in the fourth quarter, including two goals by Roth and one each for Clifford Pollard and Jack McOsker. Eric Almquist played into the third quarter and had four saves. David Walk made nine saves in relief. In addition to his three goals, Roth won 9 of 13 face-offs.
