BOSTON – A seven-goal second quarter erased a 4-3 deficit and helped the No. 19 Boston University men's lacrosse team earn a 15-7 victory over Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. THE RUNDOWN Final Score: #19 Boston University 15, Lafayette 7 Records: BU (9-1, 3-1 PL), Lafayette (1-7, 1-4 PL) Location: Nickerson Field - Boston, Mass. Highlights | Polley Postgame Comments TURNING POINT The Terriers trailed, 4-3, at the end of the first quarter, but a 7-0 run gave them a 10-4 halftime lead. Seven different Terriers - junior Hayden Ruiz, junior Jack Wilson, senior Greg Wozniak, senior Ryan Johnston, sophomore Brendan Homire, junior Ryan Hilburn and freshman John MacLean - scored those seven goals. Eleven different Terriers in total found the back of the net on Saturday, led by MacLean with three. A HISTORIC WIN The Terriers won their ninth game of the season to set a new program record for wins in a season. They continued the best start to a season in program history with Saturday's victory, improving to 9-1, and won their 25th game overall. HOW IT HAPPENED Lafayette opened the scoring less than 2:00 into the contest but senior Cal Dearth responded when Hilburn found him open with time and room. Senior Adam Schaal made it 2-1 when he dodged to the middle and his low shot beat Jonathan Anastos (6 saves). The Leopards tied the game, 2-2, but Wilson answered after a pretty feed from Schaal to make it 3-2. Two straight goals from Lafayette made it 4-3 after one quarter, but Ruiz got the Terriers back to level terms with his fourth goal of the season just 47 seconds into the second quarter. That Ruiz goal began the aforementioned run of seven straight goals to give BU a 10-4 advantage. Freshman Chase Levesque capped an 8-0 Terrier run with his fourth goal in five games to give the Terriers an 11-4 lead. After a Lafayette goal stopped the Terriers' impressive stretch of scoring, senior Henry Lee found Dearth in transition to give the Terriers a 12-5 lead after three quarters. MacLean scored twice in the fourth quarter to complete his hat trick, including a shot from midfield into an open cage. Junior Kyle Parsons closed the scoring with 45 seconds to play, with Lafayette also tallying twice in the final 15 minutes. GAME NOTES Junior Joe Stucky went 14-of-23 at the faceoff X and collected a career-high 11 ground balls. He has won 66.7 percent of his draws (32-of-48) over the last two games. Senior Christian Carson-Banister made eight saves in nearly 54 minutes of work and held Lafayette scoreless for a span of 27:03 at one point. Carson-Banister allowed only two goals in his final 39:06 of action. Freshman Joe McSorley took over in the fourth quarter and allowed only one goal while making one stop. Four Terriers - Dearth (2g, 1a), Wilson (2g, 1a), Hilburn (1g, 2a) and MacLean (3g) - recorded three points on Saturday. BU won 31 ground balls and held Lafayette to just 16 ground balls. The Terriers caused 13 of the Leopards' 16 turnovers. Four BU players - Levesque, Wozniak, senior Dominick Calisto and senior Brian Badgett - forced two Lafayette turnovers apiece. Wilson extended his point streak to 36 games with his second straight three-point day. He scored two goals and added an assist. Senior Greg Wozniak became the 22nd different Terrier to score a goal this season. MacLean has recorded his first two collegiate hat tricks in each of the last two games. BU went 16-of-17 in the clearing game.
