BOSTON, Mass. - In a true team performance, lacrosse posted season bests in goals scored (19) and goals allowed (7) against the visiting Nor'easters of the University of New England Saturday afternoon at James Cotter Field. THE BASICS UMass Boston 19, University of New England 7 UMass Boston (4-0) University of New England (3-4) HOW IT HAPPENED Led by Darragh Fahey's five-goals, the UMass offense continued to fire on all cylinders, topping their previous season-high of 18 set against Roger Williams. Their defense was just as strong, allowing just seven goals, topping their previous best set earlier this week against Lasell. Sophomore Greg Wolff wasted no time making his presence known, netting his first goal of the season 23 seconds into the game. He would finish with 4 total points, scoring 3 goals in a game for the second time this season. The Beacons flexed their offensive firepower and defensive prowess early, opening the game with a 10-0 lead, lasting until the 13th minute of the second period. Boston shared the wealth in the first quarter, with five different players accounting for their five goals. In the second quarter, Wolff, Fahey, and Gavin Admirand each netted their second goal of the game. The second frame also saw the second goal in two games for Patrick Carey, a defenseman who has been a threat on offense for the Beacons of late. The two goals allowed by starting goalie Trevor Koppy were easily the fewest allowed by a UMB goalie this season. Koppy's job was made simpler by his defensemen, who only allowed the UNE offense to take 12 shots in the first half. Carey and Patrick Colburn applied the pressure, each forcing a game-high three turnovers. BY THE NUMBERS Saturday's first quarter was just the 3rd time this season that the Beacons have not surrendered a goal in a quarter Boston outshot their opponent by 30, firing off 52 compared to UNE's 22 The Beacons improved to 9-0 all-time against UNE with Saturday's contest marking the first meeting since 1997 The Beacons have now won 18-straight regular season games UMB finished 22-for-29 on clear attempts and 13-for-19 on face-off wins WHO'S NEXT The Beacons travel to Texas next week for a pair of matchups. They will take on the Pirates of Southwestern University on Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST.
