The Tufts University men's lacrosse team will return to the NCAA Final Four for the first time since 2016 tomorrow after earning a 17-7 victory in the Elite Eight over York (Pa.) today. The Jumbos (9-0) will play host RIT in the semifinal round on Sunday at 2:00 pm. The Tigers defeated Colorado College 19-13 in Saturday's other Elite 8 game at the site. Tufts and RIT will meet in the NCAA semifinals for the fourth time. Today against York, the Jumbos overwhelmed the Spartans and led 16-3 early in the fourth quarter. York scored four times in the final eight minutes for the final 10-goal margin. Senior goalie Joe Theuer stopped 15 of the 20 shots he saw in the Tufts net (.750), while Mac Bredahl (5 goals, 2 assists) and Bryce Adam (4g, 3a) both had seven-point games. The Spartans were led offensively by Will Harnick with three goals and Paul Poholsky's goal and assist. Ethan Greene finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Jack Michael made 16 saves in goal. Tufts scored the game's first five goals and was off and running. Bredhal had two goals 10 seconds apart during the run. Harnick scored with 14 seconds left in the first quarter to get the Spartans on the scoreboard. After Matt Treiber and Adam scored for Tufts to start the second, Harnick had back-to-back goals and York was within 7-3 with 7:51 remaining in the half. Treiber added his second of the quarter and third of the game with 24 seconds on the clock for an 8-3 Jumbo lead at the break. Tufts would put the game away in the third when they out-scored the Spartans 7-0. Bredahl and Adam both scored twice and assisted a pair of goals in the third period. Bredahl set up defenseman Jack Donohue for a goal at the 3:23 mark that put Tufts up 14-3. When Adam assisted Bredahl 35 seconds into the final period, the Jumbo lead was 13 (16-3). That capped a 9-0 run by the brown and blue. Brendan O'Sullivan, Poholsky, Gunnar Reynolds and Chandler Schmidt scored for the Spartans in the final 8:04 of the game. Theuer had six saves in both the first and third quarters for Tufts. Aidan Hesse won five of seven face-offs and caused two turnovers, while Finn McTernan led Jumbo defenders with six ground balls. Sam Sturim collected three ground balls and scored a goal. Ryan Kennedy added three ground balls and two CT's for York, whose season ended with a 16-2 record. The Jumbos had statistical advantages in shots (52-43), ground balls (52-33) and face-offs (15-13). North rivals Tufts and RIT will meet for the sixth time overall. The Jumbos have won four out of five games between the teams, including 2011, 2014 and 2015 to earn NCAA Championship Game berths.
