St. Louis – Despite hat tricks from Aidan Koenig and Tyler Wenck, the Maryville men's lacrosse team saw a rally fall short as No. 10 Lindenwood held on for a 10-8 win. After cutting a four-goal deficit to just two, the Saints won a faceoff with two minutes left to go and had three straight shots but were unable to pull any closer.
Lindenwood Recap
The visiting Lions built a 4-1 lead before the Saints roared back with three straight in the second quarter. Wenck tallied his second of the game, and Clayton Cerett made it 4-3. Koenig fired in his first score of the game to deadlock the contest 4-4 at halftime.
Lindenwood went back up 5-4 but Koenig again tied the game at 5-5. The Lions again took the lead until Reid Usrey scored a goal with the Saints a man-down to pull the gap to 9-6. The deficit grew to 10-6 with 3:19 left but Koenig completed his hat trick with 2:55 to play. After a faceoff win, Wenck found the back of the net to draw the Saints to 10-8 with 2:15 remaining. Another win at the dot gave the Saints possession but the game ended with the Lions holding on to the two-goal margin.
