YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Gunnar Fagerstrom scored a career-high seven goals as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the season with a 15-6 Peach Belt Conference victory over Shorter University Saturday (April 30) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field. With their first victory since YHC restarted the program in 2022, the Mountain Lions improved to 1-13 overall and to 1-4 in the Peach Belt. The Hawks fell to 3-13 and 0-5. Young Harris earns the No. 5 seed in the PBC Tournament that starts Tuesday (May 3). The Mountain Lions will travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 3 p.m. first round match Tuesday (May 3) against No. 4 seed Flagler College. INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: Young Harris scored the first two goals of the match to take a 2-0 lead after Fagerstrom and Nic Baker found the back of the net. The Mountain Lions never trailed in the match. After Shorter scored the opening goal of the third quarter to pull within two at 8-6, the YHC defense stiffened as they didn't allow the Hawks to score again - holding Shorter scoreless the final 27:05 of the match. The Mountain Lions scored the final seven goals - three from Fagerstrom and Wyatt Peek, and another from Hunter Stagg - as YHC recorded its first-ever PBC victory. Peek added four goals and Baker added two more. Stagg and Tommy Chriszt scored once. Peek led the Mountain Lions with three assists, while Stagg and Chriszt had two apiece. Kieran Isbister accounted for the other assist. The Mountain Lions held a 47-30 edge in shots and 30-21 margin in ground balls. YHC also claimed 14 of the 24 face-offs. Young Harris forced Shorter into 27 turnovers. Isbister led the way with three caused turnovers, while Ben Soenen had two. Bryce Parrish and Jeremy Rice also registered one caused turnover each. Jacob Haas had 11 face-off wins, while Malcolm Henke claimed three more. Haas scooped up eight ground balls, while Parrish had five and Dylan Wilbur added four more. Henke tallied three ground balls. Wilbur recorded 11 saves between the pipes for the Mountain Lions.
