WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2022) – Rollins put on an impressive performance, besting the Westminster Griffins, 19-11, as the Tars took to the turf at Barker Family Stadium for the first time in 2022. Rollins remains perfect, at 6-0 on the year, while the Griffins fall to 1-2. Marshall Ellison led the way for the Tars with a career high seven points, coming on a hat trick and four assists. Bailey Pringle added four goals and a pair of helpers, good for six points. Grant Hansen, with one goal and three assists, and Ian Dean, with two goals and two assists, each tallied four point nights for Rollins. Bradley Peterson made 10 saves, while picking up the win in net. Trevor Dorfman tallied three stops in relief duty. Thomas Garvin secured 11-19 faceoffs and a game high nine groundballs. Merrit McMahon, the only multi goal scorer for Westminster, led the Griffins with a hat trick. Spencer Whinery dished out a team high three assists for the Griffins. Hagan Buchanan won 10-18 draw attempts. Gavin Beilman and Jacob Miller split time in goal, combining for 12 saves. The Tars dominated statistically, winning the groundball battle 34-29, while clearing more efficiently than the Griffins. The Tars also turned the ball over less, giving up possession 16 times against Westminster's 22. All that led to a 52-31 shot advantage for Rollins. HOW IT HAPPENED: First Quarter Marshall Ellison played a role in the Tars' first two goals, muscling his way to the front of the goal to open the scoring, before finding Finn Jent for a five-hole bouncer to make the score 2-0. After the Griffins cracked the scoreboard for the first time, Justin White stung the under side of the crossbar for Rollins third. Ellison found Zane Williams for his first score of the year, an off-hip laser from distance, making the score 4-1. McMahon's first cut the Rollins lead down to two, but Ellison and Brett Wexelblatt found the back of the net before the period expired to give Rollins a 6-2 lead at the first break. Second Quarter Jent opened the second quarter with an extra man chance. Davis Moshier tallied his first goal of the year with a laser on the fast break to extend the Tars lead to 8-2. The Griffins responded quickly to cut the lead to 8-3, but the Tars would net back-to-back scores, from Ian Dean and Bailey Pringle. After the final Westminster score of the half, Bailey Pringle netted a pair, including a goal with just 25 second remaining in the period, to give the Tars a commanding 12-4 halftime lead. Third Quarter Ellison again proved too much for the Griffins as he opened the second half by stinging a top corner on the man up. Julian Chero hit Jack Johnstone who found Pringle for a low to low rip on the fast break, to give Rollins a 10 goal lead. Grant Hansen converted a back handed flip off a pass from Pringle, as the Tars scored the first three goals of the half. Westminster responded with a trio of goals of their own, but Rollins answered, closing the quarter with another three goals, coming from Jent, Wexelblatt, and Dean. Fourth Quarter The Tars took their foot off the gas in the final 15 minutes, as the Griffins opened the fourth with three goals, cutting the lead to 18-10. Justin Spencer gathered a pass from Jack Lambert and dodged down the alley before converting a shot for the Tars 19th goal. Westminster would score once more, inside the final minute, but the defense saw out the final moments, protecting Rollins perfect start to the 2022 campaign. UP NEXT: The Tars will head to Kansas City, Missouri to take on Rockhurst. Faceoff against the Hawks is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 19.
