NAPLES, Fla. – Traveling to Florida for a neutral site matchup, the Harvard men's lacrosse team (1-1) narrowly fell to No. 8 Ohio State (4-0), 17-12, tonight at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex. Austin Madronic led Harvard's offensive efforts registering his second hat trick of the season. Sam King and Andrew Perry added two goals apiece, while five other Crimson players got on the board as well. Madronic and Greg Campisi picked up a team-high five groundballs, while Steven Cuccurullo tallied four. Kyle Mullin made 10 saves in net for Harvard. Ohio State struck first with two quick goals to begin the game, before Owen Gaffney buried one low to get the Crimson on the board. The Buckeyes found the back of the net to make it a two-goal game again midway through the quarter. After a big defensive play from Greg Campisi, Austin Madronic kept the Crimson within one with a goal on the top side. Ohio State added one more to end the quarter with a 4-2 lead. The Buckeyes put one in early to start the second quarter. Harvard responded with four-straight goals throughout the remainder of the frame. Back-to-back goals, including one from Sam King at the top of the crease and a long pole strike from Greg Campisi, made it a 5-4 game. After finding room between two Buckeye defenders, King recorded his second goal of the quarter to tie the score at 5-5. Miles Botkiss ended the period making it a 4-0 run for the Crimson after chipping one in low on a man-up opportunity to give Harvard a 6-5 advantage heading into halftime. Ohio State's man-up unit produced early in quarter three to tie the game. Three more quick goals from the Buckeyes gave them the lead back at 9-6. Andrew DeGennaro answered for the Crimson with a goal after picking up the groundball off the faceoff to cut Harvard's deficit to 9-7. However, Ohio State's offensive pressure continued as the Buckeyes added three more to their tally to take a 12-7 lead into the final frame. Austin Madronic kicked off the fourth quarter with his second goal of the day after splitting the Buckeye defense to find the top corner and make it 12-8. After one more from Ohio State, Andrew Perry capitalized on a man-up opportunity for the Crimson to fire in his first collegiate goal. The Buckeyes made it a 14-9 game before Charlie Olmert went top shelf to bring Harvard within four. The squads continued to trade goals as Ohio State's extra man unit tallied one and Perry found his second of the quarter for the Crimson. Harvard continued to fight back as Madronic recorded his second hat trick of the season to keep the Crimson within striking distance. However, Ohio State put in two empty net goals in the closing minute of the game to seal a 17-12 victory. Harvard Highlights - The Crimson recorded 13 caused turnovers, led by Greg Campisi with three and Collin Bergstrom with two. - Austin Madronic posted a team-best five points behind three goals and two assists. - Harvard tallied two man-up goals this evening. - Andrew Perry registered his first two collegiate goals of his career.
