The Utah lacrosse team came to play on Saturday against No. 4 Virginia and gave the Cavaliers a scare in the first half before ultimately falling 18-11 on the road at Klöckner Stadium. Utah came out in the first quarter clicking on all cylinders, answering Virginia's first two scores with four unanswered goals of its own. MJ McMahon broke the seal for the Utes first at the 7:46 mark before Carson Moyer knocked in the equalizer less than a minute later. McMahon followed up with his second of the day within a two-minute span and put Utah on top 3-2. A turnover midfield by the Cavaliers saw Josh Rose take it to the house himself and complete the 4-0 run. However, UVA was able to answer back with two in the final 1:27 of the first quarter and tied things up, 4-4. Ryan Rogers shot a rocket past UVA's keeper a minute later for his first goal of the season and gave Utah (3-6) the 6-5 lead. The home team opened up the second half with a pair of goals and pushed the Utah deficit up to 13-6 in the opening minutes. Moyer and Hyde each recorded their second goals of the day late in the third quarter to cut the Cavalier lead down to 13-8 but a last second goal from UVA made it 14-8 heading into the final 15 minutes of action. Virginia did not let up with Utah still playing tough on both ends of the field and went on another long run, this time a 5-0 spurt stemming from the late goal in the third to push its lead up to 18-8 on the Utes. However, Utah's fight never wavered as Moyer sandwiched Jared Andreala's goal with 2:05 remaining and finished with four goals on the afternoon. Q4 | Andreala gets his first of the game her
