PHILADELPHIA – A dominant second half, capped by a game-winning goal by senior Levi Anderson propelled Saint Joseph's (1-0) to victory over St. Bonaventure (0-1). In total, the Hawks erased a five-goal deficit in the second half with a 10-4 advantage over the Bonnies. HOW IT HAPPENED: The Bonnies tallied the first two goals of the game over the opening 5:47. SJU responded at the 7:54 mark with a score from junior Matt Bohmer. SBU took the next two before the Hawks took the final score of the period with a goal from senior Tucker Brown for a 4-2 deficit after one. Three more scores in the second frame for SBU put the visitors up 7-2 at the half. The Crimson & Gray ripped off four-straight scores over the initial 6:36 to pull the game within one at 7-6. Bohmer and graduate student Austin Strazzulla each recorded one goal with sophomore Carter Page adding two. The Hawks tied the game at eight apiece after recording two of the next three scores. Sophomore William King and Anderson were credited with the scores. The period ended with a score at the horn by the Bonnies for a 9-8 margin heading into the final period. Strazzulla scored in less than a minute to tie the game at nine all at the 14:21 mark of the final stanza. SJU took its first lead of the game with 5:53 left on another Bohmer score. Less than a minute later, the Bonnies tied the game at 10 and then took the lead 11-10 with 2:09 remaining. With 20 ticks left, Brown found the back of the net for the game-tying goal on an extra man opportunity. With four seconds left in regulation, Anderson drove to the cage and buried the game winner. BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: St. Joe's won the turnover margin (+1) and face-off battle (+20). The Hawks were successful on 12 of 13 clears. Anderson led the Hawks with five points on two goals and three assists. He took seven shots with three on cage and picked up a ground ball. Bohmer finished with four points on a team high three goals and one assist. He posted seven shots on target with a pair of ground balls. Strazzula, Page, and Brown each accounted for three points with two goals and one assist. King tallied his first career score in the game with five shots and two on target. Senior Zach Cole went 20-of-26 on face offs with a game high 12 ground balls. Graduate student Tucker Almany (1-0) got the start in cage and made 12 saves for a 52.2% save percentage.
