AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's lacrosse garnered goals from six different Zips (1-0) en route to registering a 6-5 season-opening victory past St. Bonaventure (0-2) on Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Stile Athletics Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Junior Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) gave the Zips an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 12:31 mark of the opening quarter
• Freshman Izzy Szejk (Camp Hill, Pa.) extended Akron's advantage to 2-0 on the strength of her first collegiate goal at the 4:23 mark of the first period off an assist from sophomore Mackenzie Kirwan (Appleton, Wis.)
• Senior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.) pushed the Zips' lead to 3-0 connecting on her first goal of the season at the 14:27 mark of the second quarter via an assist courtesy of sophomore Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.)
• Following at St. Bonaventure goal, sophomore Chloe Hererra (Houston, Texas) delivered a goal with 4:06 remaining before halftime off an assist from junior Sarah Pattison (Cincinnati, Ohio)
• The Bonnies scored a trio of unanswered goals to square the match at four, before sophomore Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) found the back of the net on an unassisted tally at the 8:21 mark of the fourth quarter to give Akron the lead for good, 5-4
• Kirwan pushed the Zips' advantage to 6-4 with a tally with 6:31 left in the contest off an assist from Silverheels
• St. Bonaventure capped the scoring on the afternoon with a goal with 1:16 remaining
• The Zips outshot the Bonnies on the afternoon, 29-19
• Sophomore GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) registered eight saves en route to earning the victory in net for Akron
• Junior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) and Boyd paced the Zips' offensive attack with seven and six shots, respectively
