AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-5 setback in a non-conference showdown versus Cincinnati (3-4) on Sunday, March 6, at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. HOW IT HAPPENED: • The Bearcats scored the first three goals of the match before junior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) connected on the first of two goals for Akron (2-5) on the afternoon at the 3:46 mark of the first quarter off a free position attempt. • Junior Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) tallied her third goal of the season to cap the scoring for the Zips in the opening stanza with 51 seconds remaining on a free position shot. • Cincinnati extended its lead to 7-2 before sophomore Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) delivered her 13th goal of the season for Akron on a successful free position attempt at the 10:34 mark of the second quarter. • Junior Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio) added her third tally of the season for the Zips at the 8:24 mark of the third quarter, before Kiefer scored her team-leading 14th goal of the year with 8:09 left in the match. Both scores came off successful free position attempts. • The Zips were outshot on the afternoon, 37-14, including 32-13 on goal. • Kiefer recorded a team-high four shots in the match, while adding a team-best six draw controls. • Sophomore GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) and freshman GK Hannah Sanders (Massillon, Ohio) registered 12 and three saves, respectively, for Akron. UP NEXT: Akron resumes Mid-American Conference play hosting Robert Morris in a 3 p.m. tilt on Wednesday, March 9 at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.
