VESTAL, N.Y.---Binghamton men's lacrosse (2-4) fell short in the home contest against Fairfield (4-3). After falling behind 6-3 in the first quarter, BU was able to use a three goal run to start the third quarter and cut the deficit to 9-8. The Stags responded with a six goal run spanning the third and fourth quarters to increase their lead, making it 15-8. The Bearcats offense was led by seniors Kevin Winkoff, Vincent Basile, and redshirt sophomore Thomas Greenblatt, who each scored three goals. With his three goals, Basile set a career best for goals in a game and season. Despite the strong effort from the trio, the Stags defense held strong and made it tough for the Bearcats. Goalie James Corasaniti recorded a career high 21 saves for Fairfield. BU was able to outshoot the Stags 53-45 and win the faceoff battle 18-13. Junior Matthew Desouza finished 11-19 on faceoffs, adding seven groundballs and sophomore Ross Chazanow provided a spark off of the bench going 7-12 on faceoffs with six groundballs. On the defensive end, senior Drew Furlong and freshman Jack Fearnley led the team with three caused turnovers each. Furlong scooped up four groundballs and Fearnley racked in three groundballs. In the fourth quarter, BU was able to score three straight goals to cut the lead 15-11 but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. The Bearcats will begin conference play on Saturday as they hit the road to face Albany at 1 p.m.
