The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team received a first-half scare on Sunday when star Ally Kennedy remained on the ground after a hard jab from an opponent's stick and required a visit from the training staff. But Kennedy, named this past week to the Tewaaraton Award watch list, along with teammate Taryn Ohlmiller, returned to action only a couple of minutes after gingerly exiting the field. And Stony Brook soon thereafter was well on its way to a 20-4 win against UMass Lowell at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves (5-2, 2-0 AE) rattled off eight straight goals during the first half, capped by a free-position score from Kennedy, to open a double-digit lead en route to their 44th straight win against a conference opponent. Kailyn Hart, Jaden Hampel, Ohlmiller and Kennedy all recorded hat tricks. Rayna Sabella and Ellie Masera contributed two goals apiece. "It makes me really look forward to the future, in late May, knowing that we have so many different threats on the field," Kennedy said. "It makes me excited for our potential." Ohlmiller also contributed four assists. In all, 10 Seawolves tallied goals. "We put a larger emphasis on getting back to our type of lacrosse, with assisted goals and dodging with confidence," coach Joe Spallina said. Kameron Halsall made nine saves before departing with a 19-3 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining. Spallina saluted her performance as well as a new defense installed for the game. "I think communication was the biggest thing," Halsall said. "Implementing a new defense is always fun. It's exciting. We really took that and were very athletic." Stony Brook returns to action Saturday when its hosts UAlbany at 5 p.m.
