WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 14-12 in a close battle to the No. 9 Denver Pioneers at Cooper Field on Friday afternoon. The Hoyas fall to 7-7, while the Pioneers improve to 13-1. How it Happened Denver opened the game on a 3-0 run which would ultimately remain the score at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter began with two more unanswered Pioneer goals to set the score at 5-0. Ali Diamond got the Hoyas on the board with a free-position goal to make it 5-1 at the 8:58 mark. Georgetown scored again off of an Annabelle Albert goal to put the score at 5-2. The Pioneers would score another two goals to put the score at 7-2 at the half. After halftime, both sides would find some rhythm on offense as a total of seven goals were scored in the quarter. Albert and Kylie Hazen would score to put the score at 8-4 at the 7:04 mark. Later in the quarter, Diamond found the back of the net at the 5:23 mark to make it 9-5, Tatum Geist also scored and Erin Bakes found the back of the net at the 15 second mark to set the score at 10-7 entering the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a closely contested battle. The Pioneers would open the scoring to set the score at 11-7 until the Hoyas went on a 3-0 scoring run to bring the game within one at the 10:26 mark. Denver would outscore the Blue & Gray 3-2 in the remainder of the fourth quarter to seal the 14-12 victory. Of Note Six different Hoyas would find the back of the net with Albert, Bakes, Diamond and Geist all scoring multiple goals. Bakes tallied another hat trick in addition to one assist. Senior Olivia Buckman scored her first goal of the season to pull the Hoyas within one goal with 2:57 left in the fourth quarter. LizaBanks Campagna was able to record five draw controls in addition to causing one turnover. Jordyn Sabourin also recorded five draw controls and Buckman caused six turnovers. GU was outshot 33-23 but led 15-14 in total draw controls. Up Next The Hoyas will hit the road to face Marquette on Sunday, April 24 in a contest slated to begin at noon.
