The battle for the 2017 Big East Lacrosse Championship came to Chapey Field on the campus of Providence College where the Marquette men's lacrosse team squared of against the host Friars with a automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament on the line. After upsetting the top seeded Denver Pioneers, the Marquette Golden Eagles were looking to repeat as champions in back to back seasons while the Friars earned their first ever Big East Tournament win by defeating Villanova in the semi-finals. Led by the tournaments most outstanding player Cole Blazer and after weathering late rally by the Friars, the Golden Eagles were able to repeat as champs en route to a 10-9 win. The win sets up the Eagles for an opening round matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the NCAA tournament.
