The Game Story:
Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Canisius 10-8 this afternoon on Leonidoff Field at Marist College, to take sole possession of first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League. The Red Foxes improve to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in league action, while Canisius falls to 4-5 on the year and 4-1 against conference opponents.

Marist took a 9-4 lead with Billy Duerr's fourth goal of the game with 8:37 to play in the fourth quarter. The Griffs mounted a rally form that point, scoring four unanswered goals in a 4:22 span to close to 9-8 with 3:31 to play in the game. Josh Ben-Eliyahu tallied the final goal of the game for both teams, with 2:11 to play, to give the Red Foxes the key league victory.

Marist goalie Steve Gravino had 13 saves in the game including eight in the third quarter. His counterpart Tom Kucharczak made 13 saves as well, seven in the second quarter, and none in the third.

Duerr led all scorers with four goals and an assist, while Ben-Eliyahu tallied two goals for the Red Foxes.

Kevin Ross was the only multi-goal scorer for Canisius, tallying four goals and an assist.

The Red Foxes were 18-21 on clears and picked up 41 ground balls, compared to the 29 of the Griffs. Canisius was successful on 15-22 clear attempts, and outshot Marist 30-29 for the game.

Marist returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Loudonville, NY, to take on MAAC foe Siena.
