Pioneers Come From Behind to Top Falcons
DU men's lacrosse closes out home season with win over Air Force

Five seniors all tallied goals as the University of Denver men's lacrosse team overcame a four-goal deficit to beat instate Great Western Lacrosse League foe Air Force Saturday evening at Barton Lacrosse Stadium in the final home game of 2007, 11-9.

"I couldn't be more proud of my seniors," said head coach Jamie Munro. "They stepped up tonight when we needed them to. It's great to beat one of your rivals in a league game. The seniors really deserved this win today."

Trailing 4-1 to start the third quarter, Brandon Barcus (Dublin, Ohio) pulled DU (8-7, 3-2 GWLL) within two but Air Force (2-9, 1-4 GWLL) recorded two unanswered goals to extend the Falcons' lead to four. Capitalizing on an Air Force turnover, defenseman Sandon Olson (Littleton, Colo.) fed fellow defenseman David Hahn (Aurora, Colo.) at 9:49 in the third to get DU back within three. Junior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) tallied his first goal of the night with an assist from freshman Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) to bring the Pioneers within two.

After Air Force went back up by three goals, the Pioneers went on a 3-0 run, capped by Brad Patterson's (Allentown, Pa.) lone goal of the contest, to tie the game, 7-7.

Air Force's offensive onslaught continued at the beginning of the fourth quarter, as it once again regain a one goal lead. Gajic recorded his first goal of the game at 10:57 in the fourth to knot the game, 8-8. Air Force took a 9-8 lead with 10:20 left to play. With 3:01 left on the clock, Gajic recorded his second goal of the game to tie the game 9-9. Paulson gave DU a 10-9 lead and Ryan Zordani (Littleton, Colo.), with just three seconds left on the clock, added his second goal of the game for the win.

Senior goaltender Jeb Hollingsworth (Darien, Conn.) stopped 12 shots on the night, including four down the stretch. The Pioneers led in all offensive categories, including shots, 50 to 29, ground balls, 53 to 29 and face-offs won, 13 to 10.

DU trailed 4-1 after the first half of play with the lone goal coming from sophomore Joey Murray (Denver).

Gajic led DU with four points in the game, while Zordani and Paulson had three apiece. Barcus and Murray each had two points. Patterson, Hahn, Olson, junior Brett Koll (Fort Collins, Colo.), Ryan Shaughnessy (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Jacob Houghton (Fort Collins, Colo.) added a point a piece.

Prior to the start of the game DU honored its 11 seniors: Barcus, Hahn, Hollingsworth, Clayton Millice (Denver), Ben Mullen (Madison, Conn.), Olson, Patterson, Shaughnessy, Sherman and Zordani.

The Pioneers conclude their 2007 season at Penn on Saturday, May 5 at noon MT/ 2 p.m. ET.
