The Game Story:
DURHAM, N.C. -- Freshman Matt Danowski scored four goals and handed out two assists to lead fifth-ranked Duke to a 15-1 victory over visiting Canisius in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon in Durham, N.C.

Danowski put the Blue Devils (4-1) ahead for good with a pair of goals less than five minutes into the game. Duke led 5-0 after the first period with Chris Haunss, Ben Fenton and Grant Byczek joining Danowski in the scoring column.

In the second quarter, Canisius (1-4) got on the board at the 12:21 mark when Brad Favero tallied off an assist from Matt Condon. Haunss then scored an extra man goal at the 11:32 mark before Danowski sandwiched two more goals around a Dan Flannery tally to give the Blue Devils a 10-1 advantage at intermission.

Duke then scored three goals in the third period and a pair in the fourth to account for the final margin.

Flannery finished the day with one goal and four assists while Haunss, Byczek and Ben Fenton each tallied two goals.

In goal, Aaron Fenton worked the first three periods for Duke and allowed one goal while making six saves. Dan Loftus picked up six saves in his one quarter of action. For the Golden Griffins, Tom Kucharczak (22:23; 6 GA; 8 saves) and Angus Dineley (36:48; 9 GA; 12 saves) shared time between the pipes.

Duke outshot Canisius by a 57-25 count while winning the ground ball battle, 57-39. The Blue Devils got a boost from face-off specialist Dan Oppedisano, who won 11-of-13 opportunities and recorded three ground balls.

Duke hosts North Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m. while Canisius remains on the road to face Marist on Thursday at 4 p.m.
