Hartford vs. Binghamton
April 10, 2004
The Game Story:
WEST HARTFORD, Conn.--Sophomore attack Phil Cavallo (Cedarhurst, N.Y./Lawrence) scored three of his game-high four goals in the first half to lead six goal scorers for the Bearcats, and Binghamton (5-4, 3-0 America East) scored five unanswered goals between the first and second periods en route to a 13-5 victory over host Hartford (0-10, 0-3 AE) on Saturday afternoon at the Yousuf Al-Marzook Athletic Fields.

Cavallo added two assists in his best overall performance of the season, while freshman attack Nate Kerstein (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) netted three goals. Sophomore midfielder Brian Chaapel (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy), who scored the game-winning goal in an upset of UMBC on Wednesday, came back with two goals and two assists, while classmate Matt DeCirce (Binghamton, N.Y.) chipped in a pair of goals and one assist.

The Hawks notched the game's first goal early in the first period before Binghamton pulled in front. Chaapel scored the Bearcats first goal midway through the first period and BU added two more tallies for a 3-1 lead at the end of the period. A pair of goals early in the second period extended the lead to 5-1, and Binghamton eventually led 8-3 at the intermission.

Binghamton puts its undefeated conference mark on the line at home next Saturday with a 2 p.m. start against Quinnipiac. Last season the Bearcats earned their first-ever America East victory with a 7-6 decision over the Bobcats. Quinnipiac enters the game with an 0-3 conference mark and 1-9 overall record.
