Holy Cross vs. Bucknell
March 23, 2002
The Game Story:
WORCESTER, Mass. Bucknell's attack duo of freshman Chris Cara and junior Dennis Geraghty combined for nine goals to lead the Bison to their third straight victory, 14-4 over Patriot League rival Holy Cross Saturday afternoon.

Geraghty had five goals and Cara logged four goals and three assists as Bucknell improved to 3-4 overall, 2-0 in the Patriot League. The Bison have now won 11 straight Patriot League games dating back to the 2000 season. Holy Cross fell to 0-5, 0-2.

The Bison sprinted to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and led 9-2 at the half. Cara and Geraghty combined for seven of Bucknell's nine first-half goals.

Bucknell also received a pair of goals from freshman Patrick Christensen and one tally each from Justin Slama, Rob Lane and Kelly Hogue. Lane and Andrew Sanders had two assists apiece.

Using goaltenders Justin Sussman and Jeffrey Powless for one half each, Bucknell continued its fine defensive play. Since allowing 16 goals to Maryland on March 12, the Bison have allowed a total of only 12 goals in its last three games, all wins. It is Bucknell's stingiest three-game stretch since 1970, when the Bison began the year by allowing only 12 goals in their first five contests.

Sussman made nine saves and allowed two goals in the first half, while Powless had four saves and two goals-against over the final 30 minutes.

Bucknell, now 12-0 all-time against Holy Cross, held a 42-22 shot advantage and 40-25 edge in ground balls. The Bison won 13 of 18 faceoffs, with freshman Michael Petrash claiming 10 of 13 draws.

The Bison now have a week off to prepare for next Saturday's crucial Patriot League road test at Hobart. Game time is 1 p.m.
