| The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team opened its home season with a 10-4 win over Air Force at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon. The Mount exploded for six fourth-quarter goals to earn the victory. Mount St. Mary's improved to 1-5 on the season while Air Force fell to 1-4.
Daniel Hatton opened the scoring with the first of his game-high four goals with 4:52 left in the opening quarter, converting a pass from Kevin Merlini. Air Force countered with goals from William Keleher and Greg Dangler before the Hatton evened the score with 11:15 left in the second quarter. Ian Cassidy gave the Mount the lead for good with a man-up goal to give his team a 3-2 halftime lead. Josh Warfield scored the only goal of the third quarter before the Mount offense kicked in gear in the fourth quarter. Merlini and Dangler exchanged goals before the Mount scored five straight times to seal the win. Hatton had two goals while Warfield, Matt Warner and Stephen Kelly also scored during the run. Warner and Merlini each had a goal and three assists in the game while Warfield tallied two goals and an assist. Goalkeeper David Lambour made 16 saves in the game. Dangler led the Air Force with two goals and an assists while goalkeeper William Arnold had 14 saves in the loss. Mount St. Mary's held a 31-30 advantage in shots on goal and held a 44-39 edge in ground balls. The Mount was 2-8 with extra man opportunities while Air Force was 1-7. The Mount returns to action next Saturday, March 29, with its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener at Canisius. |
