Providence vs. Butler

The Game Story:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Butler, 7-5, in non-conference action on Friday, March 22, in Providence, Rhode Island. Senior Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Friars with four points on one goal and three assists. Senior goaltender John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) registered 12 saves to secure the third-straight victory for PC.

Freshman Frank Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led off the scoring, with an unassisted goal at the 4:03 mark of the first quarter. Butler tied the game with 2:50 remaining in the quarter as Rich Pavlick connected on an assist from Ryan Ward. The Friars answered 29-seconds later (2:21), as freshman David Krasnica (Mendham, N.J.) scored on an assist from freshman Dan Giuntini (Flora Park, N.Y.).

In the second quarter, the Friars held Butler scoreless, while PC's Kevin Kornobis (Merrick, N.Y.) netted his first of two goals in the game, with 52-seconds remaining in the half. The goal gave Providence a 3-1 advantage going into halftime. Ojakian was credited with the assist. Kornobis opened the scoring in the third quarter off another assist from Ojakian at the 11:50 mark. The Bulldogs cut the lead to two goals (4-2) with 7:36 remaining in the third quarter off an unassisted goal from Kyle Tietjen. Ojakian put the Friars up 5-2 with 5:09 showing on the clock in the third on an unassisted goal, but the Bulldogs rallied to close out the quarter with two unanswered goals from Tim O'Shea and Ward, to make the score 5-4.

In the final quarter, Butler tied the game at the 11:16 mark on a unassisted goal from Adam Cichostepski. PC held the Bulldogs scoreless the remainder of the game, and put two more goals on the scoreboard enroute to the 7-5 win. Giuntini netted the Friars sixth goal of the game, which proved to be the game-winner, with 10:04 to play. Junior Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) added an insurance goal with 4:48 remaining in the game.

Providence improves to 4-2 overall on the season and will face Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Tuesday, March 26 in Providence, R.I.
