For the second consecutive game, Rutgers was shut out in the first quarter and trailed 1-0 on a Navy goal by Eddie McKinnon. Navy then got two goals from Dustin DiNola early in the second quarter put the Mids up 3-0 with 8:40 left in the half. Rutgers finally got on the board when junior attack Bryan Warner (Ellicott City, MD) found the back of the net with 5:57 left before the half, to account for a 3-1 score at intermission.
Navy opened the scoring in the third, on a score by Eddy Holton, but RU's Tim Horgan (Buchanan, NY) answered to cut the score to 4-2 in favor of the Mids. Navy got one more goal in the third, by Greg Conklin, and led 5-2 heading into the final quarter.
The defense from both teams buckled down during the final stanza, with each team scoring just once. RU cut the lead to two on a goal from Jeff Duca (Fair Lawn, NJ) with 11:52 left, but Conklin scored the final goal of the game just 14 seconds later, earning Navy the 6-3 victory.
