The Game Story:
BURLINGTON, Vt. Ė Vermont got two goals each from Dan Zwirko (Longmeadow, Mass.), Sean Layton (Wilmington, Mass.), Gordon Holden (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Andrew Holden (Glastonbury, Conn.) on the way to a 14-4 win over crosstown rival Saint Michaelís Tuesday, snapping a six-game losing streak in the process. Vermont, 3-7 overall, scored four times in the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead at the half, and then took control with five unanswered goals in the third quarter and another four tallies in the fourth. Brandon Kobelt had two goals for the Purple Knights, 7-4. Eric Libby and Brady Boyle also scored for Saint Michaelís., while Mike Boerma and Nick Calnen had assists. For the Catamounts, other goal scorers were Mike Maher (Huntington Station, N.Y.), Jamie Kirk (Orangeville, Ont.), Brian Connelly (Wilton, Conn.), Branden Moore (Beverly Hills, Mich.), Matt Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Clayton Phillips-Dorsett (Manchester, Vt.). In net, Vermontís Mike Gabel (Falmouth, Mass.) had eight saves and allowed two goals in 41:14 of action. Matt Landsman (Mystic, Conn.) had five saves and allowed two goals in 18:46. For Saint Michaelís, Jeff Hannon was outstanding, finishing with 14 saves. The Catamounts host Hartford in a critical America East contest Saturday at 1:00pm at Centennial Field. The game will be the final regular-season home game of 2005, and will mark the final home games for five Vermont seniors.
