Wagner vs. Bellarmine

The Game Story:
March 9, Concord, NC - The Bellarmine lacrosse team picked up a significant victory this afternoon, defeating their first NCAA Division I opponent, Wagner College. The Knights (3-0) beat the Seahawks (0-3) 11-7 on a neutral Cannon Field in North Carolina.

Bellarmine started off the game sluggish, and could not manage a score through the first fifteen minutes. In the second period, freshman Adam Gardner (Toronto, Ont.) kept BU in it, scoring the teamís first three goals. The Knights went into the locker room tied at 4-4.

The third period was key for Bellarmine, as they played solid defense and outscored their Staten Island opponents, 4-2 to take an 8-6 lead heading into the fourth period. Goalie JC Hutchins (Westminster, Md.) played an impressive game in goal, turning away 16 shots, while allowing just seven Seahawk goals.

Gardner finished his game with four goals and an assist. Freshman Shawn Evans (Peterborough, Ont.), scored twice, giving him a team-high 11 goals on the season, and added an assist. Freshman midfielder Jamie Floris (Niagra, Ont.) contributed three goals and an assist, while junior attack Garett Kikot (Toronto, Ont.) rounded out the scoring with a goal and three assists.

The Knights, who won their first two games of the season against NCAA Division III opponents, play three more games this season against Division I programs. They will remain in North Carolina to play Pfieffer University on Saturday.
