The Game Story:
Vestal, N.Y. – Jeff Santucci scored a pair of goals, including what proved to be the game-winner with one minute and 17 seconds remaining, to lead Binghamton to a 9-8 upset victory over UAlbany on Saturday, April 28 in the regular-season finale for both teams at East Gym Complex.

Binghamton (4-8, AE 3-2) vaulted to a 4-0 lead in the opening 18 minutes of play and never trailed. Williams, a senior attacker, tallied an extra-man goal in the first quarter, and converted again with 46 seconds elapsed in the second period. Kevin Joy completed the run with an unassisted goal.

UAlbany (12-2, AE 4-1) closed with in 4-3 midway through the second quarter. Frank Resetarits had two of his four goals in that span, while Merrick Thomson added another. The Bearcats’ Jeff Rurey and Santucci followed with even-strength goals as their team took a 6-4 lead to the locker room.

The Great Danes, who had already clinched the top seed for next week’s America East postseason tournament, would eventually tie the contest at seven apiece with 11:53 remaining. Resetarits netted his 46th of the season early in the final stanza, before Mike Ammann’s unassisted goal drew his team even two minutes later.

The Bearcats, who has lost six of the previous seven meetings in this series, went back ahead when Williams scored his third of the game off a pass from Jeff Kaylor. Santucci’s man-advantage goal with 1:17 to play gave his club a 9-7 lead. UAlbany’s Derek Dale sliced that advantage in half 12 seconds later. The Great Danes gained control of the following face-off, but that was close as they could get.

Williams, a senior attacker, finished with three goals and one assist for the Bearcats, who earned a spot in the conference postseason tourney. Goalkeeper Larry Kline made nine saves. UAlbany’s Dan McKeon, making his second consecutive start for the injured Brett Queener, stopped 10 shots in the cage.
