April 8, 2006
The Game Story:
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore Mike McDonald (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) scored two goals and assisted on two more to lead a seven-goal fourth quarter flurry as No. 1 Le Moyne held off Pace 11-3 in a Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse game at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins (9-0, 6-0 Northeast-10) took a 4-3 lead into the fourth quarter before rattling off seven unanswered goals.

McDonald had a hand in five goals for the game. In addition to his four fourth-quarter points, he assisted on an extra-man goal in the second quarter. Sophomore Brian Cost (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) scored one goal and assisted on three, while Alex Bily (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), Ryan Lewis (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and Jason Longo (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) scored two goals each.

Le Moyne has outscored its opposition 125-31 this season, but the Dolphins offense was limited to just four goals against the Pace zone defense in the first three quarters. Longo netted the only goal of the opening quarter and junior Matt Cassalia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) banged through a host of Pace defenders to put the Dolphins up 2-0 to start the second.

Pace netted two consecutive goals over a span of 24 seconds in the second quarter to knot the contest at two. Robert Cornetta finished off a feed from T.J. Urban for Pace's first goal and Justin Page rocketed home a low shot past Le Moyne goalkeeper Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H./Concord) to make it 2-2 with 5:15 left in the opening half.

Lewis scored to put the Dolphins back up for good, 3-2 on an extra-man goal with 2:44 remaining in the first half. Longo extended Le Moyne's lead to 4-2 early in the third quarter. With three Dolphins off for penalties, Michael Mezzo netted an extra-man goal that made it a 4-3 game entering the fourth quarter.

With 11:49 remaining in the fourth, Bily ignited the seven-goal outburst with an extra-man goal off a feed from McDonald. McDonald netted an extra-man tally 41 seconds later to make it 6-3. Lewis, McDonald, Ed Street (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), Cost and Bily added goals to close out Le Moyne's 66th consecutive win in Northeast-10 Conference regular season action.

Corcoran made four of his five saves in the second half for Le Moyne to lower his goals against average to 3.44 on the season. Tim Matheis and Tom Duca combined for 12 saves between the pipes for Pace.

Le Moyne travels to No. 2 LIU-C.W. Post on Saturday, April 15 for a noon game.
