|NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack College men’s lacrosse team defeated Bentley College, 10-6, in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening at Warrior Field. Junior Greg Rogowski (Cohoes, NY) netted four goals and contributed an assist, as the Warriors advance to the semifinals.|
The Falcons jumped out early, scoring the first three goals of the game, with the first coming 5:47 into the opening frame off of sophomore Brad Tunis’s (Sudbury, MA) 12th goal of the season. Down 3-0, the Warriors scored three straight, including three by Rogowski, and one by junior Jo Pisano (Dedham, MA). Bentley scored the next two, but thanks to senior Christopher Elia (East Lyme, CT), who made his return after missing eight games with a leg injury, Merrimack evened the score, and the teams entered halftime knotted at five.
Pisano added his second of the game at the 5:22 mark of the third quarter, and freshman Michael Balbuena (Falmouth, MA) scored twice, sandwiched by Rogowski’s 45th of the year. Balbuena added one more goal in the fourth quarter, and Merrimack gave up one, as sophomore Cory Spinale (Wakefield, MA) finished the night with 17 saves in net.
Elia ended up with three points on a goal and two assists, while Pisano finished with three goals. In addition to his two goals Balbuena also registered his team leading 18th assist of the year.
The Warriors will travel to Bryant University on Friday afternoon, and will take on the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. in the Northeast-10 Semifinals.
