Saint Michael's vs. Assumption

The Game Story:
COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team (7-6, 5-4 NE-10) edged Assumption College (7-8, 3-6 NE-10), 8-6, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day on Duffy Field. With the win, the Purple Knights enter the NE-10 Quarterfinals as the fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded Saint Anselm College on Tuesday with the time still to be determined.

For Saint Michael's, senior Bryan Zaremba (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) led the Purple Knights with four goals and an assist, while freshman Andrew Buccellato (Glen Rock, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) added a goal and assisted on another. Junior Charlie Niznansky (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe), freshman Sean Leahy (Grainger, Ind./Saint Joseph's), and senior Jake Previte (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) each tallied a goal each. Junior Zach Jandl (Brookline, N.H./Vermont Academy) stopped two shots in the win.

For Assumption, junior Kevin Klaskin (Norfolk, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist, senior Kevin Jurgens (Needham, Mass.) scored two goals, and freshman Will Langevin (Concord, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist. Junior Dan Shea (Wrentham, Mass.) had a tremendous day in net for the Greyhounds, stopping 18 shots.

With the score 3-2 in favor of Assumption, a pair of Zaremba scores to start off the third quarter gave the Purple Knights a 4-3 lead. The two teams would trade goals and at the 11-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Assumption would tie the score at six and score their last goal of the game. Zaremba would score the eventual game-winner with 5:43 left in regulation, while Niznansky added an insurance goal with 1:29 left.

Six seniors were honored before today's game: Zaremba, Previte, Alex Pauhus (Ashland, Mass./Catholic Memorial), Peter Pikulski (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire), Taylor Smoke (Hogansburg, N.Y./Vermont Academy), and Brandon White (Boscawen, N.H./Tilton).
