| Men's Lacrosse Falls In NE-10 Quarterfinals To Saint Anselm, 14-13 COLCHESTER, Vt. - The fourth-seeded Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team (7-7) let a late lead slip away in suffering a 14-13 loss to fifth-seeded Saint Anselm College in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex. With the win, Saint Anselm (8-6) advances to the NE-10 Semifinals, where the Hawks will visit top-seeded Le Moyne College on Friday. Today's win by the Hawks also avenges a 9-7 loss to Saint Michael's six days ago. For Saint Anselm, senior Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) scored four goals, including the game-winning tally with 1:20 left in regulation. Junior Jeff Dunkle (Exeter, N.H.) also scored four goals in the victory, while senior Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) netted a pair of goals. Juniors Matt O'Connell (Charlestown, Mass.) and Ryan McDonald (Bow, N.H.), sophomore Steve Porter (Hopkinton, N.H.), and freshman Colin Lacey (South Hadley, Mass.) all added a goal each in the win, while sophomore Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) stopped eight shots in net. For Saint Michael's, senior Bryan Zaremba (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) tallied three goals and an assist in the final game of his collegiate career. Junior Charlie Niznansky (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) and freshman Sean Leahy (Grainger, Ind./Saint Joseph's) also recorded three goals and one assist apiece, while junior James Baghai (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) tallied a goal and three assists. Freshman Andrew Buccellato (Glen Rock, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) chipped in with one goal and one assist, while junior Charles Seelinger (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and freshman Kevin Hunt (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) added single goals apiece. Junior Zach Jandl (Brookline, N.H./Vermont Academy) turned aside 10 shots in the setback. Saint Michael's led for most of the contest. The Purple Knights held a 6-3 lead through one period of play, and were on top 9-7 at halftime. Saint Anselm trimmed its deficit to 11-10 after three quarters, and took a 13-12 lead late in the final period. Saint Michael's responded by tying the game at 13-all with just under two minutes left in regulation, but seconds later, Surette countered with his third game-winning goal of the season, and a penalty by Saint Michael's with 50 seconds remaining killed the Purple Knights' hopes of scoring the equalizer.
