|MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman attack Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) recorded his first-career four goal performance as the No. 11-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team posted a 9-3 victory over the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday evening at Larkin Field. The Hawks improve to 5-1 overall and to 3-0 within the Northeast-10 Conference. With the defeat, the Penmen fall to 0-5 on the season and to 0-3 within conference play.|
Despite the Penmen holding a 2-1 advantage 10 minutes into the first half, the Hawks answered with seven-straight goals to build insurance throughout the opening stanza of the game. Three different players recorded two goals each in the opening half, as attack Ryan Mee (Medway, Mass.), freshman Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) and senior captain Tyler Steinetz (Sparta, N.J.) each struck twice to bolster the Hawks advantage.
Saint Anselm capitalized with two man-up goals in the first half, as Mee and junior midfielder Daniel Sullivan (Rumford, R.I.) each converted against the Penmen penalty kill. In total, Mee led all Hawks players in the first half by scoring two goals and recording an assist. In the second period alone, the Hawks outscored the Penmen by a 4-to-0 spread.
The Penmen struck first in the second half as Jeremy Buckley scored the first man-down goal on the year for Southern New Hampshire University with 7:22 remaining in the third. Geoff Kennedy answered with two unassisted strikes in the fourth quarter to silence the Penmen in the final quarter.
Cumulatively for Southern New Hampshire University, John Cuozzo recorded two goals alongside Buckley's man-down strike. Kennedy led the Hawks with four total goals in the contest for four points (4-0=4).
In goal for Saint Anselm, netminder Jonathon O'Reilly (Plano, Texas) made 12 saves on 15 shots on net for the Hawks for his fifth-straight victory of the year. Penmen goaltender Brendan O'Brien allowed nine goals while making 11 saves in the loss.
