The Game Story:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 13, 2010) – Senior midfielder Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) tallied three goals to lead No. 1 C.W. Post past Queens University of Charlotte, 14-6, in the season opener of men’s lacrosse at the Queens Sports Complex.



Junior midfielder James Johnston (Farmingville, N.Y.) along with sophomore midfielder Keith Rodriguez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) each scored two goals apiece. Plompen and Johnston were also credited with one assist.



The Royals scored first at 11:54 in the first quarter when senior midfielder Louis Boyle (Bel Air, Md.) fired a shot in from 10 yards on a feed from junior midfielder David Weise (Chesapeake Beach, Md.).



C.W. Post evened the score just over a minute later when Rodriguez scored his first goal of the game unassisted at 10:33. Another goal from Rodriguez at 8:32 put the Pioneers ahead, 2-1.



The Pioneer offense had absolute control of the field as the visitors led 6-1 with 9:06 remaining in the second quarter.



Queens scored its second goal with 5:39 left in the second when freshman midfielder T.C. Whaley (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored on assist from sophomore attacker Corey Geroy (Horseheads, N.Y.). The Royals added another goal immediately after the next face-off as junior midfielder Joe Taylor (Auburn, N.Y.) immediately scooped up the ground ball and ran it in to score out front.



The Pioneers scored one extra goal before the end of the first half when sophomore attacker Brad DeSouza (Trumbull, Conn.) scored a man-down goal on a pass from Hoch at 5:04.



In the third quarter, the Pioneers got help with a pair of goals from Meo scored in man-up situations as they outscored the Royals 4-2 to take an 11-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.



Hoch led off the fourth quarter with a goal from Plompen at 11:32. Queens cut the lead in half when Boyle scored his third goal unassisted at 10:02. Plompen cut the Royals’ rally short with his second goal of the game scored at 8:38 on a pass from Johnston. Junior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) scored the game’s final goal with 3:54 to spare in the fourth unassisted.



Junior Mike Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made five stops in goal to preserve the win.



The Pioneers outshot the Royals by a 35-24 count and held a 50-33 advantage in ground balls. C.W. Post was 13-for-17 on clear attempts and 6-for-11 on extra-man opportunities. Queens was 15-for-20 on clear attempts and 2-for-5 in extra-man situations.
