The Game Story:


WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21, 2009) Ė Rollins trailed by three entering into the second quarter, but were unable to make a comeback in the final three periods, falling 17-6 to Northeast 10 opponent Saint Michaelís College on Saturday afternoon at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall Sandspur Field. The Tars (2-4) head into a string of road trips in the upcoming weeks, while Saint Michaelís (2-2) returns to Colchester, Vt. to open up their home season.

Sophomore goalie Zach Cole made 17 saves in the first three periods, including 10 in the second quarter, with fellow sophomore Doug O'Brien stepping into the cage for the fourth period to pull in 2 saves of his own and give the Tars a total of 19 saves on the afternoon.

Leading Rollins in scoring was freshman Cooper Gilman with two goals and an assist. BJ Neller, Jay McDermott, Hudson Atkins Jr., and Matthew Lunnen netted one apiece. Freshman Dan Huettenmoser notched an assist to round out the points for Rollins, but it wasnít enough to keep the Tars in contention against Saint Michaelís.

Led by junior attacker Charlie Niznansky with five goals and an assist, the Purple Knights out-scored the Tars in the first half 10-3, and continued their scoring success into the second as they fired seven more shots in goal and held Rollins to three in the final 30 minutes.

The Tars were silenced in all areas of the field as they were out-shot 48-14, trailed in ground balls 52-33, and found success on only 7-of-25 faceoffs. The Tars did make use of a man-up opportunity to score a goal in the second quarter, while holding Saint Michaelís silent in power play situations as they were 0-for-3 on the day.
