|A late goal by Josh Arras helped the Lindenwood men's lacrosse team defeat the first-place team in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (WILA) on Thursday night at Hunter Stadium. The Lions defeated Colorado Mesa by a 5-4 margin.|
The Mavericks tied the game at four with just 1:44 left in the contest and won the faceoff after the goal. Colorado Mesa turned it over though for the 25th time on the night which gave the Lions possession. Lindenwood took two shots early in its possession but both were off the mark. With 35 seconds left, Arras received a pass from Carter McCracken and was able to get it past the Mavericks' goalie for a goal. Colorado Mesa never touched the ball again as Lindenwood won the faceoff and was able to run the rest of the time off the clock.
Lindenwood's defense led the team to the victory. After giving up two first-quarter goals, it went over 43 minutes before allowing another score. Lindenwood caused 11 turnovers in the contest and had a 40-33 advantage in groundballs. Colorado Mesa attempted 20 shots and had just six shots on goal. Grame Hossack led the team with eight groundballs and he was one of three players with two caused turnovers. Jake Redlingshafer earned the win in goal.
Offensively, Lindenwood had 30 shots and 15 shots on goal. Kyle O'Donnell led the team with two goals and one assist. Other goals came from Jack Carroll and Hossack. Other players recording assists were Andrew Szczepan and McNein Hewitt.
