| COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior attacker Matt Garrow scored a career-best six goals to lead Colorado College to an 11-8 victory over SUNY Geneseo on Friday afternoon in the snow at CC's Washburn Field. The Tigers improved to 3-1 with the victory, while the Blue Knights saw their record squared at 2-2 Garrow scored four of his six goals in the first two periods as CC built a 5-1 advantage at the break. The Blue Knights battled back to narrow the gap to 6-4 after three periods and cut the lead to 8-7 on a goal by Mike Pizzutto with 5:34 remaining. Junior midfielder Jud Brown gave the Tigers a two-goal cushion 1:45 later, and CC put the game away with tallies by Garrow and junior attacker Matt Gurba late in the final frame. Sophomore goaltender Chris Shopneck made 16 saves for the Tigers, including 12 in the first half which allowed CC to build its lead. Geneseo had a 37-26 advantage in overall shots and a 24-14 edge in shots on goal. Tim Garback had six saves for the Blue Knights. Senior midfielder Danny Murray added a goal and three assists for Colorado College. Pizzutto had three goals to lead Geneseo, while Chris Stock and Pat Riehlman each scored a pair of goals and added and assist. The 2005 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Classic will continue on Saturday when the Tigers play host to Connecticut College at 1 p.m. The final game of the round-robin tournament will be played at noon on Sunday when Connecticut College takes on SUNY Geneseo. |
