Senior Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) started the scoring for Cortland at 9:03 with a man-up goal off an assist from junior Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse). The Tigers tied the game at1-all on senior Ryan Neward's (Williamsville/Williamsville East) 20th goal of the season at 7:18. Hughes and Roth each scored unassisted goals late in the quarter for the Red Dragons.
The second quarter belonged to Cortland sophomore goalie Bryan Scipione (East Meadow), who turned aside all seven shots on goal, allowing the Red Dragons to extend their lead to 4-1 at intermission. The only goal of the quarter came off of sophomore Kyle Lambert's (Brentwood) stick with 2:42 remaining after he was set up from behind the cage by senior Drew Hyatt (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt).
Cortland extended its lead to 7-1 after the third period, outshooting the Tigers 18-5 in the stanza. Freshman Mike Felice (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) made it a 5-1 game 32 seconds into the quarter with an unassisted goal. Hughes set up Roth's third goal of the game at the left side of the cage at 8:36, and Felice netted his second of the quarter off a pass from freshman Blake Gale (La Fayette) with 1:21 on the clock.
RIT made a small run to climb back into the game in the early stages of the fourth quarter. Senior Josh Molinari (Oswego) beat his defender on the right side of the cage and slipped a shot past Scipione at 13:42 to make it 7-2. Senior Chris Copeland (Webster) then netted an unassisted man-up goal at 11:24 to pull the Tigers to within 7-3. After Cortland freshman Bill Gleason (Camillus/West Genesee) won the ensuing faceoff, Hyatt made a one-on-one move from behind the right side of the goal and beat RIT freshman goalie John Foley (Guelph, ON/Our Lady of Lordes) with a low five-yard shot to increase the lead to 8-3. The Tigers tallied the next goal to make it an 8-4 game. Neward stole a clearing pass and scored his team-leading 21st goal of the season with 9:18 remaining.
The Red Dragons, however, closed the game out with the final three goals. Roth fired a 50-yard pass to Hughes who beat an RIT defender and Foley to the ball to notch his second of the game at 7:39.
