| Carlisle, PA)- The Dickinson College men's lacroose team erutpted with five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to rally past Swarthmore 11-6 in its Centennial Conference opener. The Garnet Tide started strong, scoring first at the 11:30 mark of the first quarter. The Devils answered before Swarthmore went on a 3-1 run to take a 4-2 advantage. Swarthmore led 5-4 at halftime and tallied the first goal of the second half with 13:13 remaining in the third quarter. It was all Devils from that point as sophomore Derek Still (Oreland, PA/Penn Charter) led Dickinson on a 7-0 run to close out the game. Still scored every other goal in the run to finish with four on the afternoon. He dished out a pair of assists as well for a game-high six points. First-year Charlie Gorman (Chevy Chase, MD/Gonzaga) added two goals and an assist while senior Drew Peace (Lutherville, MD/Boys' Latin) struck twice at well. Senior Bernie Nolan (Bowie, MD/Gonzaga) had an outstanding day, winning 17-of-21 face-offs and controlling a game-high 14 ground balls, all of face-offs. First-year Chris Breslin (Garden City, NY/Garden City) recorded five ground balls while Matt Kogelschatz (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's) caused four turnovers and controlled three GBs. Tim Marshall (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) joined in as the Devils held the Garnet to just 17 shots, including two in the fourth period, and killed three extra-man opportunities. Kyle Wilson led Swarthmore (2-2, 1-1 CC) with three goals while Drew Bonessa added four face-offs and four GBs. The Red Devils improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to #7-ranked Gettysburg College on Wednesday for a 3:30 start. |
