Dickinson vs. Washington College

The Game Story:
CARLISLE, PA -- Third-ranked Washington College outscored host Dickinson, 10-4, in the second half en route to a 16-10 Centennial Conference men's lacrosse victory this afternoon in Carlisle, PA. The Shoremen improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils slipped to 3-3 and 0-1.

The Shoremen held a 6-4 lead with under four minutes to play in the second quarter before the Red Devils scored two late goals to tie the score at 6-6 at the break. Greg Welch scored off a feed from Ed Boyd at 3:13 and Boyd scored off an assist from Taylor Hare with 2:22 left.

Washington pulled ahead, 7-6, 59 seconds into the third quarter as junior attackman Jon Spivey (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) scored an unassisted goal. Hare then scored off a Welch assist with 7:34 left in the period as the Red Devils tied the score for the final time.

The Shoremen then scored four unanswered goals in under two minutes. Spivey scored off an assist from senior midfielder Stephen Berger (Columbia, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) with 7:07 left in the third and then found senior midfielder Michael Dyal (West Palm Beach, FL/Hotchkiss School, CT) for a goal with 6:48 on the clock. Spivey then scored two goals in eight seconds, firing in a marker off a Berger feed at 5:49 and scoring off an assist from Dyal with 5:41 left in the period. Dickinson's Ed Boyd scored the final goal of the quarter off a Welch assist with 4:57 on the clock to make it 11-8 after three periods.

Washington scored the first three goals of the fourth period to put the game away. Spivey scored off a Berger feed with 14:25 left, sophomore attackman Sam Lane (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield) followed with a goal with 13:10 on the clock, and Dyal pushed the lead to 14-8 with a goal with 12:41 to play.

Spivey, Berger, and Dyal each finished with six points in the game for the Shoremen. Spivey tallied five goals and one assist, Berger notched three goals and three assists, and Dyal contributed two goals and four assists. Lane added three goals for the Shoremen, while freshman attackman Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME) scored two goals.

Brian Reed led Dickinson with four goals, his fifth consecutive game with at least three goals. Boyd added three goals and one assist, while Welch totaled two goals and two assists.

Washington senior goalie Richard Yost (Westminster, MD/St. Paul's) played the first 27:38, making five saves and allowing six goals. Sophomore Kevin Thibadeau (Cheshire, CT/Avon Old Farms) played the final 32:22 in goal for the Shoremen, making 11 saves and allowing four goals. Tom Wilson made nine saves for Dickinson.

The Shoremen are back in action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game at 11th-ranked Cabrini.
