| TOWSON, Md. -- For only the second time in the 12-year history of Goucher's
men's lacrosse program, the Gophers held an opponent to a single goal today.
York's Jason Kemper tallied an unassisted goal midway through the first period,
creating a 1-1 tie, but it also proved to be the Spartans' final goal of the
contest as the Gophers emerged with a 12-1 victory.
The Gophers (3-3, 1-1 Capital Athletic Conference) broke out on top 1-0 on an unassisted goal by Ashley Tarran-Jones 5:41 into the game. After the Spartans (1-1, 1-1 Capital Athletic Conference) pulled even on the Kemper goal, sophomore goalkeeper Reeves Craig made saves on all nine of the shots on goal the Spartans managed over the final 52:56. The 1-1 tie held up until Matt Wilson scored a pair of goals in the final 1:40 of the first quarter to put Goucher ahead 3-1. Following a scoreless second period, the Gophers struck for four goals in the third period and five more in the fourth. Five different Goucher players -- Wilson, Tarran-Jones, Ian Montgomery, Brian Engelhart and Tim Pistel -- contributed two goals apiece to the victory. Montgomery also had a pair of assists. The only other time that Goucher has limited an opponent to one goal was in a 17-1 victory over Villa Julie on April 15, 1994. |
